Chimpanzees are man’s closest relatives. They share many of our traits and are arguably the most intelligent Apes after we humans. They are known to live up to 60 years in captivity. In Rwanda, chimps can be found in three main places – Nyungwe National Park (Nyungwe and Cyamudongo forests) and Gishwati Mukura national park. Nyungwe National Park has the highest population of chimps (over 600 individuals) and other primates – 13 species in total. Two chimpanzee communities have been partially habituated in Nyungwe National Park. MAYEBE GROUP Has 100 individuals while the rest are found in Cyamudongo Forest has 30 chimpanzees individuals. Chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest are active in the morning, an early rise is required for maximum viewing opportunity starting at 05:00AM daily, all visitors are required to be at the Park headquarters in time well prepared and on the go, visitor are usually accompanied by an experienced and an expert trackers to guide you on a deep Chimpanzee trek, learning about these fascinating Chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest as they enchant through forest trees what they call home. Daily only a maximum of 8 visitors are permitted to visit a Chimpanzee family/troop. Have an informative trek and learn about Chimpanzee's communication. Chimpanzees do communicate to each other through beating tree trunks. This is so common passing on a danger message to colleagues in the troop Chimpanzee viewing cannot be guaranteed. One must be of 15 year of age to be legible to track Chimpanzee .
